A user on Google Photos Help forum reported “Recently I have tried to upload a video of mine, however, it’s been stuck in the uploading stage for so long and just leaves me with an endless notification that reads “Uploading 1 item”, with the bar eternally moving. I tried to stop the upload by turning off back up and sync, yet that does not work either and still leaves me stuck in the uploading process.” And, Google representative replied with “The best way to fix this is by deleting the data and cache.” But clearing the cache once may not fix the issue. Method 1: Clear Cache
Most of the users have faced this on either Android 9 Pie or Android 10 Q. It is understandable to get this error on Android Q as it is still in beta phase, but you can still try to get rid of it. Follow the steps below to fix Getting ready to back up issue on Google Photos;
Step 1: Open App drawer.
Step 2: Find Google Photos. Long press the icon to open app properties.
Step 3: Tap on App info. (You have to get to this screen regardless what path you follow.) Step 4: Tap on Storage & Cache.
Step 5: Select Clear cache option. This should fix the issue. If it doesn’t work, try opening the app and clearing the cache a couple of times.
That should fix it. You can also Reboot or Power off your device to fix the upload issue on Google Photos.
Method 2: Turn Off Battery Saver Mode
Sometimes Power Saver mode or Battery Saver mode might be the culprit. If you have battery saver mode turned on, try backing up your photos after turning it off. This mainly worked on Samsung Galaxy devices running on Android 9 Pie. Turning off battery saver will block the upload that is running in the background. No matter how many times you clear cache or even reinstall the app, if battery saver mode is interrupting the upload, Google Photos will not back up your photos.
